HOPE foundation Community care Project Staff and PATH Project staff observed the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day on May 15th, 2005. The theme for the day was “Turning Remembrance into Action”. The occassion was celebrated at the Open Air Theater, Government Hospital for Thoracic Medicine, Tambaram, Chennai.
The event started with the “Thamil Thai vazthu” by Children from Good life Center. Santhosh P. Kagoo, Project Coordinator, PATH Project welcomed all those present. In his welcome speech he spoke about HOPE Foundation's HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care projects. He also reiterated the objectives of International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day.
Mr. Ravi, General Secretary of Kancheepuram District Network of Positive People (KNP+) spoke on the beaty of “Living Positively”. He shared about his experiences as PLWHA (People living with HIV/AIDS) and the activities of KNP+.
Mr. Bhaskar, Director of Good Life Center, gave a speech for HIV +ve people saying that we need to do three things to them. That is “Anbu, Aravanaipu, & Thannambikkai”.
Mrs. Senthamarai of INP+ & Mrs. Kantha of KNP+ spoke about their life experience and the importance of self-confidence for the PLWHA.
Children from Good Life Center and HOPE community care center did the cultural presentation.
HOPE foundation, PATH staff performed the 'Care & support' songs.
Mrs.Nalini Kagoo, gave away gifts to the children who participated in the dance.
Mr. Ravi concluded the event with a pledge. He then lighted the candles. The local community, Peer educators (PATH project), Health care providers, representatives from the 'Positive Network', orphans with HIV/AIDS, NGO representatives, caretakers of the AIDS Home and HOPE foundation staff participated in the event.
