World Tuberculosis Day - March 2005

HOPE Foundation observed the World TB Day on 24th March 2005 at Ambattur Municipality, just outside Chennai. The theme was “Stop TB, Cure it with DOTS”.

As a part of the drive, HOPE volunteers conducted a 5 day TB Awareness Campaign in Ambattur, Padi, Mugappair and the Ambattur Industrial Estate. The Volunteers put up TB awareness Street plays in different places. They distributed 11,500 pamphlets for TB awareness.

On 29th March 05, HOPE Foundation organised a Meet to commemorate the “ World TB Day”. Dr.Ashok Prabath, C.P.O HOPE foundation welcomed the Honoured Guests and participants. HOPE then played a presentation highlighting the achievements of HOPE foundation in the field of TB care. Dr. Govindaraju , DDMS shared the achievements of the District Tuberculosis Centre (DTC). Dr. Aliyamma Thomas, ASD, TB Research Centre (TRC), spoke about Multi Drug Resistant (MRD) TB. Dr. Sadacaram,TRC, Dr. Lakshmi, MOTU Dr. Rajasaker, MHO all spoke about NGO’s contribution in fight against TB.

Dr. Perumal Aditional director, State TB Officer, addressed the issues with regard to the successful implementation of DOTS in TamilNadu.

Cured patients shared about, how the DOTS program helped cure them of TB and also how they now assist the TB Program as DOTS providers for other TB patients. Doctors from the 6 PHC’s and 200 health staff and volunteers participated in the event.

Honoring their esteemed services in the field of TB, Dr.Ashok Prabath, C.P.O HOPE foundation, gave away the “HEART OF HOPE AWARD” to Dr.PERUMAL, Additional director and to
Dr. GOVINDARAJU, DDMS D.T.C
