TB Care Launched at Annai Sathya Nagar

HOPE Foundation, Chennai has crossed another milestone. It is also an acknowledgement of HOPE’s expertise and achievements in Tuberculosis (TB) Control. Kudos to Vijay, our Program Coordinator!

On Sept 21, 2005, Hope foundation formally kicked off its TB Project in Annai Sathiya Nagar in Jafferkhanpet, Chennai. The locality has a population of 3300. Most of the adults here are labourers.
HOPE started with a BANG at Annai Sathya. That evening, 3 ‘shows’ of a Street Play at different points announced the entry of the TB Control team into the lives of the Community. Besides, the ‘edutainment’ sought to spread awareness on the symptoms of TB and its infectious nature, a
lso indicating that it is curable. The Play is an adaptation of the one used by HOPE’s PATH Program on NH-45.
The colony public responded well. The HOPE Team distributed over 500 pamphlets to drive the point further into the psyche of the Colony
The Team started work the next morning at 7:30 AM. Working from the Surabhi Community Center, the HOPE Health Worker began with the routine sputum checks and TB counseling. The health worker is suitably qualified for the job.
For better results, the HOPE staff became proactive and started a survey among the residents of the Colony to find symptomatic cases.
The next milestone was the first case detection on Oct 5th – 17 year old Perumal. He is now under DOTS.
HOPE Foundation has the mandate to continue the Program for a total of 10 months from the Donor – Chennai Willingdon Corporate Foundation.
